Problem with Client Certificates, iis7

Hi. I've gone crazy trying to figure this out.  I have a Windows WebServer 2008 with IIS 7.0 where I have set up a test web site that mimics the IIS 6.0 site it is going to replace.  This site uses Client Certificates (requires them) with many to one mapping.  Everything works except for the logon to the server.  I get the list of possible certificates in the web browser but when I try to connect, I always get a windows logon and password dialog.  That should not happen with client certificates - it should automatically use the username and password that is set up in the many to one mapping.  This only happens if I turn on Windows Authentication in IIS.  But all the examples show that it should be off. With Windows Auth turned off then I simply get a 401 error.  It seems like the server is not accepting the credentials I entered, but they are my user credentials, (domain and local tested) and I know they are valid.  I can supply a lot more information, but perhaps this in enough for someone to suggest what my problem may be.

Thanks, Russ
